The Geneva Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CGDDh) has learned that the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights has registered the complaint of Me Noureddine Bhiri against the Tunisian state for the violation of his rights, including his right to justice, following his abduction by the security forces in late 2021 and early 2022.
Me Ridha Ajmi, a Tunisian-Swiss lawyer and president of the CGDDh, declared that the case is also being investigated by the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, Madame Margaret Satterhwaite. He added that this news is very significant and demonstrates that African institutions are taking the Tunisian case very seriously.
We reiterate our call for the immediate release of Me Noureddine Bhiri and all political prisoners in Tunisia who are detained for their opposition to the coup d’état perpetrated on July 25, 2023.
We will continue to closely follow this case and update the media on future developments.
