For the media: Don’t shoot at ambulances: A bit of seriousness and credibility

Over the last few days, our association has received virulent, intimidating and accusatory messages from “journalists” that are apparently under the influence of Israeli media propaganda.

These messages follow on from the steps taken by our association to participate in civic-minded efforts to bring those responsible for the atrocities committed in Gaza before the International Criminal Court (ICC). It is clear that anger is rising in all the NGOs that defend human rights and have been working for weeks to bring those responsible before the war tribunals.

We are not asking journalists to take care of the form, but at least ask journalistic questions, not mix everything up and to have a minimum of background to talk about an issue as complex as the Palestinian file.

We find it truly incredible that during the year commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions, some people in Switzerland remain indifferent to the bombing of hospitals, schools, including a UN school, and places of worship.

The crimes documented in United Nations reports bear witness to the most serious violations of international law and magistrates have concluded that they have evidence establishing that crimes against humanity and war crimes have been perpetrated in the Gaza Strip. In addition, the Israeli army has used prohibited weapons against civilians, including phosphorus bombs.

This barbarity against a poor population that was weakened by the long blockade has provoked an immense feeling of indignation throughout the world.

The General Assembly of the United Nations, including Switzerland, adopted a resolution to stop the bombing on humanitarian grounds. A resolution that the Israeli authorities categorically ignored.

Usually, after a war or a large-scale humanitarian disaster, the international community mobilises to help the population and rebuild the destroyed country. In the case of the Gaza Strip, however, the genocide is continuing and the entire international community is witness to it.

We refuse to sit back and watch the genocide unfolding before our eyes. We must continue to mobilise and commit ourselves to :

  • Demand that Switzerland play its part in enforcing the 4th Geneva Convention for the protection of the Palestinian civilian population.
  • Reactivate the boycott campaign against Israeli products and companies that support this regime.
  • Continue to work with partners to bring those responsible for the crimes before the war tribunals.
