GAZA: Silence is not an option / Urgent actions to protect civilians from this ongoing genocide

Geneva, 18 March 2025

There are no words to describe the horror / Silence is not an option / Urgent actions to protect civilians from this ongoing genocide

This morning’s Israeli attacks killed 350 people in 2 hours and wounded more than 1,000 others, most of them in critical situations and hospitals are unable to provide medical care. Most of the victims are children and women.

All available evidence indicates that Israel has deliberately violated the ceasefire agreement, and that Israel has refused to honor its obligations under the agreement. It continues to ban humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and temporary shelters while completely closing Gaza’s border crossings.

The international community, and Switzerland in particular, have a crucial role to play and must urgently call for immediate measures and demand the implementation of the rules of international humanitarian law of which Switzerland is the depositary. These measures must include:

  1. To activate of all available mechanisms to protect civilians from genocide.
  2. To ensure the immediate opening of humanitarian corridors
  3. To impose sanctions on Israel and an immediate halt to all military aid.
